FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR,
Mrs. Terri O’Daniel
Academy of St. Louis Family Business Owners and those who work for companies that pay Mo State Taxes.
Academy of St. Louis and Herzog Tomorrow Foundation invite Academy families with businesses and other outside companies to a presentation explaining details about the MOSCHOLAR Tax Credit Program, which funds scholarships for Academy students.
Who can participate in the MOSCHOLAR Program?
Anyone or any company that pays MO State taxes.
How does it work?
The Herzog Tomorrow Foundation will explain the simple process of redirecting your MO state taxes to support tuition for Academy students. Last year, Academy students received $95,000 in MOScholar funding to help pay for tuition.
Join us for a light breakfast and coffee sponsored by the Herzog Tomorrow Foundation this Wednesday, October 9, at 7:30 a.m. for our Business Owners and another session for the Academy of St. Louis Families at the Parent Coffee at 8:30 a.m.
To explore ways to support Academy student scholarships by redirecting your tax dollars.
*Feel free to bring a friend to share in the conversation and connection!
Location for both events: Academy of St. Louis
567 St. Joseph Lane
Ballwin, MO 63021

During the next few weeks, students will take the Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Achievement with Deacon Paul, Mrs. Barmeier, or Mrs. Puettmann. There is nothing that you should do to prepare your student for this test.
The Woodcock-Johnson IV (WJ-IV) Tests of Achievement is a widely recognized assessment battery that provides valuable insights into a student’s academic strengths and weaknesses across various domains, such as reading, writing, and mathematics. The test is individually administered at the pace of your child. It is an indicator of your child’s performance under optimal conditions to give us the best picture of their capabilities. Your child will be tested yearly to measure their growth in each area.
The assessment results will drive curriculum decisions and appropriate accommodations tailored to your child’s unique needs. These accommodations address your child’s strengths and weaknesses and support their academic growth and development.
Congratulations to all the students featured on our Virtue Board for showing Kindness and Empathy to others during September.

DO YOU HAVE A VETERAN IN YOUR FAMILY?
The Academy of St. Louis wants to salute them on November 11, 2024. There will be a program; afterward, donuts and coffee will be served. Please send your veteran’s name, rank, and picture (if possible) to Kathy Lagos at klagos@sbcglobal.net as soon as possible. This includes deceased veterans, whether they died in the war or not.
Also, if you have a scout in your family, girl or boy, and would like to participate in posting the colors. Please let me know.
Thank you for your service!
This week, our theme was superheroes, and the students loved playing with our new superhero toys. We enjoyed stories like *My New Friend is So Fun!* and *Grandpa Loves Me*, which helped us focus on sharing, teamwork, and family. In Religion, we discussed Noah’s Ark. Our activities included superhero-themed math, creating cards for grandparents, and collecting and making leaf rubbings in art and science. Thursday, we enjoyed mass with our grandparents. They did a great job bringing down the gifts; they especially enjoyed the cookies afterward! Friday, the students
designed their superhero capes.
It was an exciting week!
Groups 1 and 2 continued with our novel study The Adventures of Tom Sawyer this week in Chapters 12 through 17. Group 1 started their first essay on Quack Medicine of the 19th century and Group 2 began a comparison essay between Pirates of the Golden Age and Tom and Huck as “Pirates in Chapters 13 and 14”. All students should have a pretty good start on their cell projects for Biology. They were encouraged to at least finish their labels or key of the organelles by this weekend. Remember, they can turn them in anytime before October 16. Students continue to learn about the westward expansion and causes of the War of 1812 in history. We would also like to shout out to our new student Grace Meyer! She has been a delightful addition to our classroom family. Another shout out to Lena Buckholtz for her ability to communicate with her teachers and to make good choices in the classroom
even when it is difficult.
This week for Groups 3 and 4, we continued to read Uncle Tom’s Cabin and were introduced to a character, Eva, who despite having health challenges, maintained her kindness and empathy to everyone. In Social Studies, we learned about all of the responsibilities women had during the Civil War. Our studies in Religion included Adam and Eve, and in Math, we are continuing our lessons. A huge shout out to Graham, Devon, and Austin who helped to wrap Grandparent’s Day flowers in tissue paper and then tied them with a bow. This added a special touch to the gifts for grandparents.
Also, we’d like to wish a Happy Birthday to John Paul!
