Academy Pet: (Peeps)
It is that time of year again, and many students have been asking when they can bring Peeps, our class bunny, home. Typically, interested families can pick up Peeps on our Friday dismissals and return him to the Academy the following Monday. We provide everything he needs for the weekend, including a care sheet, so you know what he needs daily. This is a great way to give your student temporary responsibility without the commitment of a full-time pet. Peeps is used to being in homes with other pets and small children. The sign-up genius for this semester is listed in the link below. Students can sign up for multiple weekends. If you have any additional questions, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Hodge at khodge@acadstl.org

SNACKS
DON’T FORGET SNACKS!
Each day, every class has a mid-morning snack. Please remember to send in a snack with your child each day.
We’ve had a busy week in class and have enjoyed the nice weather! We read about the story of Jonah and the Whale and followed it up with some fun and creative crafts that brought the story to life. We also had the opportunity to visit church and attend mass, which was a great experience. They’ve been settling into our new routines and building and developing friendships in the classroom.
Groups 1 and 2 continue working on what it means to be a supportive family and how to show kindness and respect in the classroom. Kathryn Anzilotti is a constant example of how it looks to put others first! We would also like to Shout out to Connell K for his amazing ability to push through his academics and for being a great peer role model! As we progress into the school year, have your students check their Google Classroom for missing assignments and encourage them to reach out to their teachers if they need any further assistance! We are here to help and support them as they learn to manage independence and practice these executive functioning skills.
It was an excellent week for Groups 3 and 4! Students have been actively participating in collaborative activities, supporting each other, and building stamina. Some highlights of the week have included our study of cells, virtual field trips, and discussing and viewing current events. Since our virtue of the month is kindness, we’d like to give a special shout-out to Group 3 for giving up part of their PE class time to help Mr. Houlihan set up the Gaga Ball game so other students could play.
Groups 3 and 4 went on an orientation field trip. We reviewed the cardinal directions of N-S-E-W and located our school in relation to Hwys. 141 and 100. (Ask your student what is the common name for Hwy. 100). We reviewed the various services offered at a nearby strip mall and purchased some items for the school. Group 1 went on a trip to Dierbergs. Each student successfully purchased an item (without direction) independently and returned the receipt and the correct amount of change.

Lunch Accounts
Lunch is serviced by St. Joesph Early Childhood Learning Education and its FACTS Management System. That system is changing, and they cannot register our new families or deposit funds into the accounts now. This will not disrupt our ability to purchase hot lunches. In the meantime, we will collect lunch orders from our families and record the purchases. You can deposit money into the account when the system is corrected. If your student wants to purchase lunch, please use the lunch calendar to order. Circle the days you wish your student to buy and return the calendar to the office.
