FROM THE DESK OF…
Terri O’Daniel, Executive Director
Thank you to all the parents who joined us for Dr. Bruno’s presentation. The audio link will be available on September 10. I believe his information was helpful and timely for everyone. Thank you to Dr. Bruno for the communication tools you shared to help our families and their children. Please watch for more parent presentations in the future.
PRINCIPAL’S CORNER:
The first full week of school was awesome! I have been so impressed with all the students and their amazing transition back to school. I have been touched many times this week by their kindness to each other and their perseverance. These things create a joyful environment for all!
I hope to see some of you at our first parent coffee on Wednesday, September 6 at 8:15 a.m. in the Parish Center. I hope you all enjoy the long weekend with your families!
We are so happy to be together again! It was a great summer but it’s always nice to see our school family. Our class is working hard to learn our schedule and routine. Like always, we continue to celebrate one another especially when we push through things that aren’t always easy. A special shout out to our friend, Theo, who got out of his car every morning! Theo, you should be very proud!!
Congratulations on a wonderful first week of school! I appreciate the warm welcome from the families and students for my first year at the Academy and am so excited to be working with all of you this year! The students have worked so hard this first week and it’s been fun getting to know every student. We have a great class that works well together and are looking forward to learning together this year!
To our new families, Welcome! To our returning families, Welcome back! It has been an exciting start to our year for the upper classes! We have been getting to know one another and working on getting comfortable with the classroom structure and routines. Students have already learned how to navigate multiple aspects of Google Classroom and have implemented skills using Google Docs, Google Slides, and Google Spreadsheets. It hasn’t all been work and no play, though. We have also practiced social skills through student interviews and team tasks. Each class participated in an escape room, and we even did an environmental project that involved trash pickup around the school campus and the local park.
We look forward to starting our academic curriculum next week and wish everyone a safe and restful Labor Day Weekend!
Student Highlight:
We want to give a shout-out to EVERYONE in Groups One and Two
for showing such outstanding support for one another.
We had a busy week reviewing, learning, and implementing our new routines this week. The students’ favorite activity this week was our time spent in the Sensory Room checking out all the fun activities and ways to help us regulate. In Science class this week, we learned about the different types of weather which the students were very interested in learning about.
This will be our focus for the upcoming lessons in science class.
