May 1 – May 5, 2023

Happy May! 

We had a great week. Our class continued to watch the birds at our window feeder and made peanut butter birdseed sticks; the birds also loved our leftover apple slices. Ask them about the Robin getting the worm. During centers, we worked on writing, typing, and touch math. Everyone worked hard.

In Reading and Art, we read an interactive story, Color of His Own, by Leo Lionni. The chameleon finds his identity and a place where he belongs, just like OUR classroom family! We then water-painted chameleons and watched a short clip about Chameleons.

Thank you for the Staff Appreciation Week lunches and goodies. We appreciate everything you do for us! Enjoy your weekend. There are only 14 more school days left.

We can’t believe there are only a couple of weeks left! We’ve been filling our days as much as we can! The highlight of our week was the food bank! We volunteered and helped lots of people! Happy weekend!

MIDDLE SCHOOL 1

 We are studying the balance of power between the state and the national government, which is characterized by a system of grants and mandates, as well as by several key policy areas.

MIDDLE SCHOOL 3

We are still studying that foreign policy is a nation’s set of plans and procedures for dealing with foreign countries.

MIDDLES SCHOOL 2

We learned that World War 1 began in 1914 and lasted until 1918. We are learning that the 1920s were a time of technological and cultural change.

HIGH SCHOOL 2

We are learning about comparing feudalism and nationalism. We are also learning to identify what absolute power meant during this time.

MIDDLE SCHOOL 1 and 3

 This week students began learning all about the sun and planets in our solar system. We created our own books with fun facts about each of the planets from the hottest to the largest to the least dense and the ones with rings. We will be adding to our books next week as we explore moons, asteroids, comets, and dwarf planets. 

HIGH SCHOOL 2:

This week’s review on sound energy in Physical science was a blast! We took looked at Chapter 6 from a different perspective than we had earlier this year. Instead of focusing on how sound works, we looked at how we use sounds, how we recognize sounds, and how sounds impact our emotions. We watched a documentary on sound use in horror films and we took turns recording our own mystery sounds for everyone to guess in a game called “Name that Sound” Next week we will be reviewing Ch. 7 on light! 

ELEMENTARY 
We focused on lessons of prayers and sharing.
MIDDLE SCHOOL 1, 2 & 3 and
HIGH SCHOOL 2
 We finished our review of Pentecost and the descent of the Holy Spirit.

DRAMA
Students are preparing for the Spring Play “Brer Rabbit and the Day of Learning.” Parents are welcome to join us at 2:00 on Thursday, May 18th, for our end-of-the-year performance! We will send a flyer home closer to the date as a reminder.
