Weekly Newsletter
April 22 – April 28, 2023
Congratulations! The auction Saturday evening was fabulous. With 360 guests attending, we had a sold-out event. The student performance was the highlight of the evening, with each student showcasing their talents. Thanks to Mrs. Dunn for the inspirational songs and skits she rehearsed with our talented performers for the past weeks! The performance was heartwarming, ending with our traditional finale, “Thank You, Lord.”
Thanks to our auction chairperson, Kelly Winter, who organized and created a flawless, meticulously run evening, along with Mrs. Dunn, who worked endless hours to make the auction run smoothly. Mrs. Dunn warehoused and organized items to create over 480 silent auction baskets at home. Debbie Satory, our decorating chairperson, transformed the Family Center into a spectacular venue creating a lively atmosphere of elegant fun! The uniquely themed table décor immediately elevated the mood as guests entered the magical auction event! Thank you, Debbie!
And finally, thanks to all of you, our families, who worked together to raise over $200,000 of the $500,000 in operational funds needed to bridge the gap between tuition for each student and the actual cost to educate each Academy student. As executive director, one of my priorities is to raise the remaining operational funds through grants, private donations, foundations, partnerships, and other initiatives; to ensure we continue to manage these funds responsibly, enabling us to continue to improve our program for the variety of students’ needs we serve while remaining debt-free. I am happy to report that we will once again reach and exceed this school year’s fundraising goal of $500,000.
A SPECIAL LUNCH TOMORROW FOR OUR STUDENTS
Tomorrow our students will be treated to a special lunch for their heartwarming performance at the auction. You don’t need to bring or buy lunches! Mrs. Cantareira will be sure to cancel any orders previously placed for tomorrow.
Principal’s Corner – Mrs. Morales
Our last Parent-Teacher conferences will be held next week. These are not mandatory but will be an opportunity to review your child’s progress over the school year and discuss expectations for the next year. Report cards will not be given until the last day of school, but the Individual Development Plan will be discussed. An email to sign up for conferences will go out this week.
Just a reminder that our final Media and Running club will be this week!

Spring is here
And nature cheers!
As blossoms burst
And shoots appear!
Longer days
Bring warm sun rays,
Newborn animals
Frolic and play.

We continue to enjoy the beautiful spring weather and all that nature brings. We finally saw birds visiting our bird feeder. We observed an ant farm full of busy ants working hard. And on Friday, we had a special visitor, a real turtle that we rescued from the parking lot. Before returning him to the wild, we were able to spend time observing it, playing with it, and even feeding it a small piece of an apple. We named him “Snapper.” Afterward, we decided we wanted to learn more about turtles!

This week was a busy one as we prepared for the auction performance at the end of the week. We also celebrated Mrs. Hartmann’s birthday with donuts! We ended the week with some relaxation time in the sensory room.

MIDDLE SCHOOL 1 & 3
Our students turned in their final Book Report Projects, which were AWESOME!! Here is one of the posters created by Caitlyn:
Students also completed a Language Arts Diagnostic Assessment for IXL. This info will help us find a starting point for each student, as well as provide information for work they can do during the summer.
MIDDLE SCHOOL 2
Rock climbing, dirt biking, and parasailing were the three exciting sports we studied this week as we practiced vocabulary and comprehension skills.
HIGH SCHOOL 2 – WRITING
High Schoolers are moving right along with their persuasive writing. We continued to tailor our drafts for a particular audience, as well as interjected opposing opinions.

This week in math, students focused on independently strengthening their math skills with teacher support provided as needed. Students were encouraged to work at their own pace and level, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts they were learning. I provided one-on-one support to students who needed additional assistance.
MIDDLE SCHOOL 2
This week, students worked on a variety of skills, including problem-solving. They were encouraged to use different strategies and techniques to solve problems, allowing them to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. HIGH SCHOOL 2
We took some time for the auction, but we had time to review the life and missionary journeys of the Apostle Paul.
Drama
Our spring play is underway! Students will be rehearsing daily for the upcoming play “Brer Rabbit and the Day of Learning.” It is a short skit all about a certain forest animal who doesn’t like getting out of bed in the morning. Sound familiar? We are excited to present this with a few twists of our own in just a few short weeks!
Staff Spotlight
Mrs. Kathy McGrath Ray
This week our staff spotlight is Mrs. Ray. Mrs. Ray loves Diet Coke as her drink of choice and loves when her husband is at home to cook her a delicious meal. Her favorite color is seafoam green. This is her first year at the academy. She loves shopping online at Amazon for many different things. She became a teacher because she loves helping students become the best they can be. Her favorite part about the academy is hanging out with the students during her downtime.
