Principal’s Corner – Mrs. Morales
The highlight of our week was our field trip to Schroeder Park for our Earth Day extravaganza. Our Environmental crew Nathan Roeslein, Leo Kraus, and William Siebert gave their thoughts on how we can do better to help the environment. Students had a picnic lunch and then cleaned up trash at the park. High school 2 ended up earning a pizza party for their class, having the most trash found along the trail through the woods! Mrs. Hodge had each student complete Earth Day posters which now decorate our bulletin board. You also received trees on Friday. The Arbor Day Foundation donated 25 Bald Cypress saplings that we’d love for you to plant in your yard! Please send us a photo when you do!
Just some reminders as we near the end of the school year. Students should be wearing sneakers each day. Crocs are not a part of the dress code. Wearing any slip-on shoes does not allow students to safely navigate the school, playground, and gym class. We have also noticed several students forgetting snacks on a daily basis. Every day each student has snack time, if they forget a snack, apples are the only snack provided in the office. Thank you, as always, for your continued support!

This was one of the best weeks ever! After having three of our friends absent for several days, we were finally all back together! Our class is a family, and it’s always more fun when everyone is here. On Monday, we went outside, and we dug and dug and dug until we finally found WORMS! We made worm farms in plastic jars, and we observed our worms for several days. We read about worms and learned many interesting things.
On Wednesday, we had the best time walking to the park with our school family. We had a picnic, rolled down the hills, took a nature walk, and made new friends on the playground. During our days together, we find ourselves laughing a lot. While we were digging for worms, a big bug jumped out from the ground, and we all screamed at the same time. We looked at each other and just started laughing. We treasure these special times together.
This week was full of many activities! We worked on our regular math, reading, and life skill activities but enjoyed some community outings as well. Wednesday, we spent time at the ranch helping out animals! Thursday, we enjoyed a visit from Duo Dogs and a therapy dog. Friday, we bought ingredients to create our own dessert! It was a busy week!
MIDDLE SCHOOL 1
We are studying how over the past 200 years, conflicts over the balance of power between the national and state governments have led to changes in American federalism.
MIDDLE SCHOOL 3
We are studying U.S. foreign policy and how it has changed over time. The changes have been guided by five basic goals and formulated through a set of theories, tools, and strategies.
MIDDLES SCHOOL 2
We are learning how many pioneers passed through Missouri on their way west. We also learned that the westward expansion helped many of Missouri’s communities.
HIGH SCHOOL 2
We are learning how to identify Montezuma and the mistakes he made. We are also learning how small groups of Spaniards conquered two large empires.
MIDDLE SCHOOL 2
This week in Science, we learned all about “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.” Our class took a virtual field trip to see where trash ends up after we throw it away. We visited a local dump and a recycling center. Then students collected recycled materials to create our very own “class pets”! Next week, we rocket into outer space to learn how the solar system works. We will be rocketing into Ch.8 next week as we learn all about how the solar system works.
MIDDLE SCHOOL 1 and 3
Students worked diligently on their water pollution presentations. Some chose to create a brochure, while others designed an animated google slides presentation about their research from last week. We also celebrated Earth Day by incorporating our Ch7 Students, who worked diligently on their research projects this week. Some chose to design a brochure, while others created an animated google slides presentation. They will be sharing their information on their assigned topics next Tuesday. We wrapped up Chapter 7, section 3 on “Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle” – just in time for our Earth Day activities. We will launch into outer space next week as we begin Ch.8 on the Solar System, beginning with how it works!
MIDDLE SCHOOL 1 & 3
Students are finishing up their Book Report Projects. We have dioramas, Comic Strips, Collages and Glossaries with Word Searches all based on scenes from The Janitor’s Boy.
MIDDLE SCHOOL 2
This week we used our comprehension and Vocabulary skills to learn about Parasailing, White Water Rafting, and Hot Air Ballooning.
HIGH SCHOOL 2 – WRITING
High schoolers updated their Persuasive Essay draft to account for who their audience is, and possible opposing opinions.
HIGH SCHOOL 2:
Our Physical Science Class reviewed ch.4 this week on work and energy. We focused mostly on potential and kinetic energy. Students designed their tricks using Dominos, which included a force to put their dominos in motion as well as an object to which the dominos exerted force into as well. We began by drawing up blueprints for our “mouse-trap” designs, then following step by step process to put them to the test. We will continue reviewing how energy works next week as we turn up the “Heat” in Ch.5
MIDDLE SCHOOL 1 & 3, and HIGH SCHOOL 2
This week in math, students focused on independently strengthening their math skills with teacher support provided as needed. Students were encouraged to work at their own pace and level, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of the concepts they were learning. I provided one-on-one support to students who needed additional assistance.
MIDDLE SCHOOL 2
This week, students worked on a variety of skills, including problem solving. They were encouraged to use different strategies and techniques to solve problems, allowing them to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. I monitored the progress of each student and provided feedback to help them improve their understanding of math concepts. I provided one-on-one support to students who needed additional assistance.
CLUB UPDATE
Just a reminder, last day for clubs is May 2nd and 3rd!
Media Club:
This week at Media Club students enjoyed some time on Canva creating flyers for different upcoming events! We can’t believe that there are only a few weeks left of school and Media Club!
Running Club:
Running club was extra fun this week doing relays on the track, playing tiger by the tail and completing throwing exercises. We had a few kids with some minor foot/leg pain so they were able to walk a lot of the club time. Other students did some quick 15 second intervals of walk/run to help increase their running ability.

MIDDLE SCHOOL 1, 2 & 3 and
HIGH SCHOOL 2

Staff Spotlight
Ms. Samantha Ellison
This week our staff spotlight is Ms. Ellison, our school counselor. Ms. Ellison has been at our school for over three years! Her favorite drinks and food are Dr. Pepper, Chick-fil-a, and Red Robin. If she had to choose Target, Amazon, or Walmart, she’d choose Amazon. She loves working with the kids and helping them build friendships. One of her favorite things about the Academy is getting the chance to work with all the families in grades K-12. We love Ms. Ellison! Thanks for all you do!
