Principal’s Corner – Mrs. Daniela Morales
In two weeks, we will have our next round of parent-teacher conferences. For some reason, it always seems like the second and third quarters are close together due to Christmas vacation. If you feel like you have good communication and have no further questions regarding your child’s current progress or grades, we look forward to meeting with you at the end of the school year. However, if you would like to discuss the third quarter or have any other questions please reach out to set up a parent-teacher conference.
PRIMUS INTER PARES
Emmett Collins
Emmett is 9 years old and lives in Ferguson with his parents and sister Zoe and Juliette. He loves playing soccer, being outdoors, and camping with his family on weekends. Emmett is in second grade and his favorite places to sit in the elementary room are the boat and the spinner seat. He likes the blue fish window cling and the basket of ocean creatures. Emmett runs in the gym with a soft blue dodgeball and likes cleaning tables better than stacking chairs. He likes having a schedule, and music and dancing with his class. His favorite color is orange and sometimes he likes time to be “all by myself.” Emmet is calm, peaceful, and quiet with a soft voice.

MIDDLE SCHOOL 1,2 & 3 HIGH SCHOOL 2
Students did an awesome job paying attention and working hard to complete the ITBS this week.
MIDDLE SCHOOL 1,2 & 3 HIGH SCHOOL 2
We completed the Iowa Assessments in our homeroom class this week.
ELEMENTARY
We reviewed the reason and practices of Lent. We also studied the lessons of the parable of the Good Samaritan.
MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASSES and HIGH SCHOOL 2
We reviewed the precepts of the Church and the nature of venial and mortal sins. We also had time to study Jesus’ teaching that outside elements do not defile, only that which derive from within.
With daffodils blooming, this week is a good time to start planning for summer

The more everyone at home talks about ideas for the future, the better!
“From there to here, from here to there, funny things are everywhere!” What a fun-filled week with many activities to celebrate the one and only, Dr. Seuss! Our week started with a favorite Dr. Seuss book, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, and Blue Fish. After reading the story, we made our own jello fish bowls, very cute and yummy too! We enjoyed creating our own hats with rhyming words to pair with our book, The Cat Came Back.
Thing One and Thing Two came for a visit and how can we forget eating green eggs and ham?
It was such a fun week.
Happy Birthday to Dr. Seuss!
MIDDLE SCHOOL 1, 2 & 3, and HIGH SCHOOL 2
This week we worked on taking the Iowa assessment in the homeroom. I was so proud to see all the students working very hard and hear how seriously all the students were taking the math section of the test by taking time to work out all the problems on worksheet paper.
MEDIA CLUB
For the Media club this week one group of students continued their work on editing the yearbook and looking at formatting and design. The broadcasting group was excited to focus on sharing about current events, sports, weather, and much more. They hope to share their broadcast soon! The newsletter group did a nice job finishing up the bulletin board to display staff spotlight information!
Staff Spotlight
Enjoy the double feature!
Ms. Heying
We are excited to introduce Ms. Heying as our second guest on the news staff spotlight questions. Her drink of choice is a mix of lemonade and iced tea aka an Arnold Palmer. She loves shopping at Target and the color forest green. Her favorite place to eat is Mission Taco. She loves shrimp and carne asada tacos. Ms. Heying chose to be a teacher because she enjoys helping people succeed and come to their full potential.
“I get so much joy in helping my students learn and grow,” said Ms. Heying. She has been here for eight awesome months and is enjoying every minute.
MIDDLE SCHOOL 2
Science was cut short this week to accommodate the standardized testing period. Students wrapped up our Ecosystem Unit with a combination of classroom activities and the viewing of Planet Earth on the Discovery Channel. We will begin Ch. 7 on Pollution and Destruction next Monday, March 6. Vocabulary terms to start brainstorming include agriculture, development, mining, nonrenewable resource, and renewable resource.
MIDDLE SCHOOL 1 and 3
Last week our classes completed their research papers on terrestrial ecosystems that they were assigned as a group. This week, teams used the same research process to create a display board of an aquatic ecosystem that could be found in their region. The display boards included a food chain containing consumers, producers, and decomposers, as well as an example of human interaction and its effects on the ecosystem. We will be presenting our ecosystems next week to the rest of the class in video format.
HIGH SCHOOL 2
Our physical science class continued learning the process of writing a scientific research paper. Using the data we collected last week in our various types of charts and graphs, we were able to construct an outline for our paper. Each student was then assigned a specific portion of the outline to complete on a single collaborative report. We will be using this research format on future projects and applying what we have learned to enhance our independent research moving forward this year.
This week was filled with testing and some much-needed breaks in between. We are looking forward to getting back to our regular schedule next week and visiting Long Meadow Rescue Ranch, where we will do some regular volunteer work. Happy weekend!
Mrs. Morales
Our next staff spotlight guest is Mrs. Morales. Her drink of choice would be sweet tea. If she could shop at a certain store it would be online through Amazon. Her favorite color is red. When she goes out to eat she loves the Corner Pub. She chose to become a teacher because she likes all kids. She has been here for 3 years and her favorite part about the academy is not only the amazing staff but the great kids too!
