With it being our first full week back from break, it was a busy one. In BIOLOGY, we finished up lessons on vertebrates and are moving to invertebrates next week. For MATH, there have been a couple of changes. For Semester, students are moving from Consumer Math to individualized sections of Intermediate, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra. This week I was able to go with the students on the Career Exploration trip to BCI (Boone Center, Inc.). It was truly amazing!
ASTL Spirit Day
The next Spirit day is Wednesday, Jan 16th!! Students are invited to represent the great U.S.A. by wearing comfy clothes that are Red, White & Blue!
Our Baby Celebration for Baby Davis is Friday, Jan. 25th at 12:15, during our Pizza Friday/January birthday Celebration!! The students and staff (parents are welcome too) will help Mrs. Davis celebrate her new baby due in March!!
Leah Darrow is at Holy Infant this Sunday, Jan. 13th at 7 pm. We highly recommend this opportunity!! Tickets are $10 a piece. Click here to buy tickets and get more information.

Next week is Pro-life week at the Academy. We will celebrate our own births and all the unborn babies! First, we will collect diapers as a school. Some of our high school students will deliver them to Birthright. They prefer sizes 1 & 2. Please send in a pack if you can. Then, we will say a decade of the rosary each day before lunch for the unborn children. Also, in Religion classes, Mrs. Schroeder will plan special activities.
Room 2 – Mrs. Luedde
Career exploration trips continue for Rm 3 & Rm 4. This week we’ve visited Dierbergs and BCI (Boone Center, Inc.). Students have been working hard on their reflections to really learn about themselves and how they feel about different aspects of jobs they’re visiting. Upcoming topics we’ll be covering include resumes (updating and/or creating); laundry practice; and nutrition, using “MyPlate” (choosemyplate.gov). Room 2 has started a Social Studies unit to learn more about their circles of helpers – beginning with themselves and moving out to their families, their neighborhood, their community, their city, and finally their state. So far, we’ve covered themselves and their families (don’t forget to send in some pictures for us to copy and put on their posters).
Please join us this Sunday, January 13th after the 9:00 am and 11:00 am Masses at St. Clement Catholic Church for the Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfast. All proceeds generated from the breakfast will go to the Academy of St. Louis.
St. Clement’s address is 1050 Bopp Road St. Louis 63131 Hope to see you all there!
Coffee Cup Open on Wednesday, Jan. 16th from 9 to 9:30 am. Parents welcome!

Room 3-Mrs. Higgins
In LITERATURE this week, Room 3 read A Secret for Two, Room 4 read Knots in My Yo-Yo String, and Room 2 read We Are and Animal Costumes.
All classes also worked on a variety of skills including sight words, reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Geography classes continued learning about the states of the Southeast and studying their locations, abbreviations, and capitals. There will be a quiz over the Southeast next Tuesday. In Social Skills, we learned about Mindful Smelling and how memories and important information can be attached to and triggered by smells because the smell and memory centers in the brain are close to each other.
Mrs. Schroeder – Religion
The students have started off the new year on a great note! Rooms 3 & 4 are learning the 7 corporal works of mercy – (having to do with the physical needs) and the 7 spiritual works of mercy (having to do with the mind or soul). Room 2 is learning about Moses and the 10 plagues of Egypt.
Auction Performance Practice
Auction performance practice starts next week. For the first two months we practice 2 times per week during different times of the morning. Then in March we will add a 3rd practice to the week. We are looking forward to another awesome auction performance!!
