Heather Forbes Presentation and Training at Academy of St. Louis

Heather T. Forbes, LCSW of the Beyond Consequences Institute will be giving a presentation and training at Academy of St. Louis on September 17th from 8:30 am to 3pm. This event is open to the public. Tickets at the door ($35 for one, or $55 for two).

Heather’s presentation will dispel beliefs that a love-based model of parenting is reckless and without boundaries or controls. It is quite the opposite. Her presentation will show how strong boundaries, consistency, and predictability are the hallmarks of a love-based model and more importantly, she will demonstrate how to “enforce” rules, boundaries, and expectations without fear, control or punishment.

Join Heather for this love-based and fun training, backed by neurological research and brain science. It will be a life-changing event and will empower you to be the best parent your children need you to be.

Training Description: Children are emotional beings and their brains are still developing all the way into their early twenties. Brain science is showing us that how a child develops and how the brain wires is directly correlated to the depth of the attachment relationship with the parent(s).

Traditionally, parenting philosophies and techniques were lacking the information we now have from brain science and it unfortunately focused mainly on how a child behaved rather than on how secure the relationship was with the parent. This behavioral focus resulted in parenting techniques that were consequence based, fear driven, and logically oriented.

In this training, Heather T. Forbes, LCSW will challenge its participants to think beyond what we have always done and what has always been accepted in our culture regarding parenting. Her love-based parenting model focuses on developing emotional security within the parent/child relationship.  She helps parents understand how deepening the attachment relationship with their children is the most powerful way to teach and guide their children. Her techniques help parents to focus on the regulatory needs of their children to help them learn to develop stronger internal controls while helping children deepen the connection to their own intuition.

PRESENTER:

Heather T. Forbes, LCSW is the owner of the Beyond Consequences Institute.  Forbes has worked in the field of trauma and healing since 1999. She is an internationally published author and speaker on the topics of raising children with difficult and severe behaviors, the impact of trauma on the developing child, adoptive motherhood, and self-development. Coming from a family of educators, Forbes has a heart for children in the classroom and for finding ways to teach the child that seems “unteachable.” Her signature style is to bridge the gap between scientific research and real-life application to equip parents, educators, and therapists with practical and effective tools. Much of her experience and insight on understanding trauma, disruptive behaviors, and adoption-related issues comes from her direct mothering experience of her two adopted children and mentorship of a severely trauma-impacted young adult.
